"What an amazing event…truly mind expanding and empowering."
– Annmaria Mazzini/Mazzini Dance Collective
Dance/NYC, New York City's leading organization dedicated to promoting the knowledge, appreciation, practice, and performance of dance in the metropolitan area, today announced its sixth annual 2015 Symposium happening Sunday, February 22, 2015, at Gibney Dance Center's newly renovated downtown location. This is the only full-day gathering of dance leaders and supporters in the metropolitan New York City area. (Complete schedule online.)

This year's Symposium invites participants to "rise together" and dive deep into questions of cultural equity, resilience, technology and private sector practices. "We are thrilled to welcome the dance industry's leaders and supporters as well as New York City's entire arts community to this year's Symposium," says Lane Harwell, Dance/NYC Executive Director. "By sharing innovation and information, forming partnerships, and stimulating ongoing engagement in dance, we hope to advance the art form and explore ways for dance and New York City to work as one."

Hundreds will gather for panel discussions, case studies, interactive workshops, individual legal and management consultations, a networking lunch, and more. Some of the day's highlights include: Meet NYC Arts Advocates: Dancing Toward Cultural Equity, a timely discussion about the state of arts advocacy in NYC coming on the heels of a new NYC Department of Cultural Affairs initiative to examine diversity in the cultural field; Dance Education for Every NYC Child panel led by dance educator and advocate Jody Gottfried Arnhold; Power, Privilege, & Perception: Voices in Race and Dance, a session focused on equity and inclusion; and discussions regarding rehearsal space (and lack thereof), emergency preparedness, technology, and community engagement. Many leaders in the dance field's vanguard will serve as panelists including but not limited to: Richard Move of MoveOpolis!; Eduardo Vilaro of Ballet Hispanico; Tammy Bormann of Urban Bush Women; Michele Ramos-Burkhart of Verdict Works; as well as representatives from The New York Public Library, Nonprofit Finance Fund, Dance Heritage Coalition, TenduTV, Fractured Atlas, New Music USA, Tisch Dance, Mertz Gilmore Foundation, New York Foundation for the Arts, American Ballet Theatre, Dance/USA, BAAD!, Exploring the Metropolis, NYC Department of Education, Hunter College, Lincoln Center Education, NYC Council, NY Community Trust, and more.
