Deborah Rosen is a choreographer, dancer, producer, and instructor. She has been creating her own work since 2006. Her first production premiered at the Diavolo Dance Space in Los Angeles, which included her first full length piece, "Reflections", an examination of losing a loved one and nurturing the pain that exists through the process of healing. Since then Deborah has had the opportunity to present her work at the annual Celebrate Dance Festival 2009, produced by Jamie Nichols, presented yearly at the Alex Theater in Glendale. For Celebrate Dance 2009 Deborah premiered "Giunone", Italian for Juno, the goddess of Marriage and Birth, Protectress of Women. "Giunone", was danced by five women, and was performed with both live music by Tom Moose and live vocals by Laine Proctor. Deborah has most recently co-produced an evening of dance with Alyson Boell, choreographer and dancer. This production was presented at the Diavolo Dance Space in August 2009, in which Deborah had the opportunity to present "Giunone", plus premiere a new work "S.O.S / Sleeping On Snow", an exploration of finding self confidence and trust, inspired by "Alice in Wonderland", "The Wizard of Oz", and the compelling music of Bobby Johnston. "S.O.S" was constructed in a surreal setting, including red china balls, installation art pieces, including live accordion, vocals, and inspired text by Lewis Carroll, author of "Alice in Wonderland". Deborah will premiere a new work, "The Space Between, Before and After" for Celebrate Dance, March 12, 2011. The architecture of the piece is specifically designed, in which the use of negative space is strongly highlighted in order to portray group against solo by creating walls of bodies with cracks allowing us to see only certain parts of the movement expression. The movement is motivated by the need for a thread of recognition and connection. The accompaniment of a multi-dimensional score by Tom Moose envelops the dancers in this ethereal tug-a-war between awareness and disregard. Opportunity, found or lost. The dynamics of the music is purposefully obsolete to highlight the flux in the dancer's choices which creates specific swells of base emotion. The piece ends with a solo dancer, the "after" moving softly "between", as a memory, reminiscing entrances, exits, and moments in-between. "The Space Between, Before & After" is generously supported by The Durfee Foundation / ARC Program. ************************** Jamie Nichols / Executive Producer CELEBRATE DANCE 2011 Saturday March 12, 2011 Alex Theatre www.celebratedance.orgwww.youtube.com/user/twofastfeetwww.facebook.com/pages/Celebrate-Dance/114466121941563?ref=sgmtwitter.com/celebratedance
