Zuni Restaurant, in the heart of the Broadway Dance and Theater district, is decorated with colorful paintings of jazz musicians, all painted by Elizabeth Rosen, and they're for sale. Harry Allen - Joe Cohn Quartet appears there every Monday night, 8 PM - 11:30 PM, and they invite many guest artists to join the music, with jazz generosity, in an effort to support the local and international music community. When musicians are in town, they can be seen, on occasion, jamming with Harry, Joe, and the band.

You can read more about the Harry Allen - Joe Cohn Quartet on RobertaOnTheArts.com. Tonight, Robert Abrams, also a Zuni regular, joined me for a light dinner and drinks, while we listened to Harry, Joe, and the band. I had succulent, steamed mussels with a dry chianti or two. Harry, Joe, and the band, with numerous guests from New York and Italy, played from their repertoire of Swing, Foxtrot, Ballads and Blues. You can almost always recognize the tunes they play, some of which can last forever, with fresh improvisations, as each guest artist takes a timely turn. Of course, Harry Allen and Joe Cohn are renowned stars on the scene, and Harry's swinging sax sound and Joe's lightning guitar fingering are always the most memorable moments.

According to Robert Abrams, Publisher, ExploreDance.com, "I have been to Zuni twice recently. Both times the service was excellent. The atmosphere in the restaurant is warm and inviting. The first time, I went there for a pre-theatre dinner. I was going to see A Dancer's Life with Chita Rivera. She was amazing. My guest and I started with assorted and very nourishing appetizers. They were very tasty. For our main course we both had the salmon. It was perfectly prepared. Light and flaky. Zuni is only a couple of blocks from many Broadway theatres. We were able to enjoy dinner and get to the show with plenty of time.

The second time I was at Zuni, I was there to hear Harry Allen play Jazz. He plays every Monday night. I thought his music was very appealing. Very smooth. I had the quesadillas and a glass of wine. The quesadillas had just enough spice to be a great late night snack that perked me up.

Zuni's prices are reasonable too. I highly recommend that you check them out."
