On this night, the incredibly fantastic Tango Musicians, Composer, Fernando Otero, on piano, Nick Danielson (See Tango and NYC Ballet Interview), on violin, Pablo Aslan, on bass, and Hector del Curto, on bandoneon, (See Ziegler Review, Jazz Standard) performed at La Belle Epoque. They performed Otero's vibrant and dynamic, original pieces, plus Astor Piazzolla's Tango music, which is danceable, as well. For this Tanguera, who loves to dance to Piazzolla, it was an honor to witness such a rare musical event, which was then repeated the following Friday, January 17, at La Belle Epoque and at La Boca, January 14. Del Curto makes his bandoneon sing and cry, exquisite music for the audience. Otero is a brilliant and cutting edge composer, in total control of the keyboard. Aslan, well known in Tango circles, was at the top of his form, with rich, round sounds from his bass. Danielson is an extremely talented violinist, equally at home with either classical or Tango musicians and works. (Also see www.avantango.com for more on tango music.)
