Patricia Field and Dancers Responding to AIDS Choose Catskill, NY for ARTFASHION Show, Oct. 6-8

by Michelle Tabnick
September 26, 2017
Catskill, NY
Two huge events are happening in Catskill, NY in October over Columbus Day Weekend. Patricia Field, the award-winning costumer of HBO's "Sex and The City" (series and movies), "The Devil Wears Prada" movie, TV Land's current hit show "Younger," and many other media projects, has chosen to bring her ARTFASHION collection to Catskill the weekend of October 6-8, 2017, as a benefit for Greene County Council on the Arts (GCCA). On the same weekend, Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, is hosting its fifth annual Hudson Valley Dance Festival at the Historic Catskill Point. The two events masterfully do not conflict with each other, making this a phenomenal opportunity for fashion, dance, and art lovers in the New York area to enjoy a blockbuster weekend in one of the most beautiful parts of the state, especially during autumn.

Ms. Field's ARTFASHION show occurs at Joe's Garage-Catskill, a new industrial event space on Main Street and underwriter of the event on Friday, October 6, at 7 pm, and on Saturday, October 7 at 8:30 pm followed by a dance party DJ'd by world renowned DJ Tedd Patterson. Ms. Field will also host a pop-up shop at Joe's garage on Saturday, October 7 from 11 am to 7 pm, and a Q&A on Sunday, October 8 at 1pm. General Admission is $20 online or $25 at the door, with VIP Preview Packages at $100. Reservations may be made at www.greenearts.org or 518-943-3400.

Hudson Valley Dance Festival (#hvdance) will feature renowned dance companies and emerging artists from a range of styles for two enchanting performances on Saturday, October 7 at 2 pm and at 5 pm. The festival will again transform the 120-year-old wooden warehouse at Historic Catskill Point into a modern-day dance venue.

Performances will include choreography by Tony and Emmy Award winner Rob Ashford, Joshua Beamish, American Ballet Theatre Principal Dancer Jeffrey Cirio, American dance legend Merce Cunningham, Moses Pendleton, Emmy Award nominee Sonya Tayeh and Manuel Vignoulle. Performances subject to change. Tickets start at $40 and are on sale now at dradance.org or by calling 212-840-0770, ext. 229.

Sponsorship opportunities also are available for both the GCCA ARTFASHION event and Hudson Valley Dance festival.

Field's ARTFASHION is Making Waves and a Perfect Match with GCCA

Ms. Field's ARTFASHION show has been making waves in the art community from Miami's Art Basel to Berlin to Bergdorf Goodman in New York City to, most recently, Mykonos, Greece-and the world has taken notice. That the iconic, magenta-haired Ms. Field is bringing her show to Catskill is already major-that she is doing so as a benefit for Greene County Council on the Arts, a non-profit arts organization, is also a major coup, one orchestrated by long-time GCCA supporter, Catskill resident, and friend of Ms. Field's, Michele Saunders.

Ms. Field's approach to ARTFASHION is to present her runways in an environment that is filled with colorful artwork, usually made by her stable of ten artists, including Scooter LaForge, Ben Copperwheat, Iris Bonner aka ThesePinkLips, Jody MORLOCK, and more. For the Catskill show, Ms. Field's artists will be joined by several Hudson Valley artists, including Portia Munson, Justin Love, Nina Isabelle, and Ginnie Gardiner, as well as a number of New York City artists, including Lola Jiblazee, Renee Xors, Keli Lucas, and ClockworksCros, a Surrealist artist whose works are collected by several prominent collectors and celebrities.

Production/event design is being donated by Geoff Howell Studio. Legendary DJ, producer and re-mixer Tedd Patterson will provide music and sound. Michele Saunders will use her extraordinary eye for talent to present diverse and interesting local talents on the runway. All items in the show will be for sale, and a portion of sales will go to benefit GCCA. Sponsorship opportunities also are available.

The weekend will culminate in a live Q&A with Patricia Field on Sunday, October 8 to open GCCA's upcoming CENTENNIAL: SHE exhibition, which commemorates the 100th anniversary of women getting the right to vote in New York State through contemporary artwork and historical context of the suffragette movement. Artwork presented by Ms. Field and several other ARTFASHION artists will also be featured in SHE exhibit. Both the Q&A with Ms. Field and the opening reception are free and open to the public.

Ticket prices for the ARTFASHION shows are reasonable at $20 online and $25 at the door. For those who want a little something extra, GCCA is also offering VIP "Pre-Runway" packages ($100 per person) that include a champagne reception, meet and greet with Patricia Field and artists, photo/video op, sneak peek at final rehearsal/fittings and behind the scenes, preferred VIP seating during runway. GCCA expects this once-in-a-lifetime event to sell out and suggests people mark their calendars and buy tickets early.

The Patricia Field ARTFASHION show is sponsored by Joe's Garage Catskill, Columbia Greene Federal Credit Union, Verdigris Tea, Furniture Plus, Woodstock Healing Arts, and James & Purcell Palmer Foundation.

Greene County Council on the Arts (GCCA), based in Catskill, is a not-for-profit arts and programming organization serving Greene County and surrounding communities. GCCA nurtures artistic endeavors by providing a wide range of services, including year-round changing exhibitions, youth arts workshops, arts education, community arts and county regrant programs, and a bi-monthly newspaper, Arts Alive, which features artist opportunities and cultural events in the region.

Hudson Valley Dance Festival Continues to Raise Awareness and Funding

In its first four years, Hudson Valley Dance Festival has raised an impressive $460,397. The money raised helps Broadway Cares provide grants to AIDS and social service organizations nationwide, including 10 based in the Hudson Valley: Albany Damien Center and Alliance for Positive Health in Albany, Animalkind and Columbia-Greene Community Foundation in Hudson, Matthew 25 Food Pantry and Community Hospice in Catskill, Hudson Valley Community Services in Hawthorne, Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center in Kingston, Roe Jan Food Pantry in Hillsdale and TOUCH (Together Our Unity Can Heal) in Congers.

New this year is a special VIP daytrip package from New York City, which includes roundtrip luxury bus transportation, a tour of the just-restored Thomas Cole National Historic Site followed by a champagne luncheon, a ticket to the 2 pm performance and a cocktail reception after the show. In the 1800s, Cole was the founder of the famed Hudson River School of painting, the nation's first art movement, and the inspiration for this year's Hudson Valley Dance Festival artwork.

Hudson Valley Dance Festival is sponsored by The New York Times, United Airlines and City National Bank.

Dancers Responding to AIDS relies on the extraordinary compassion and efforts of the performing arts community to fund a safety net of social services for those in need. As a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, DRA supports the essential programs of The Actors Fund, including the HIV/AIDS Initiative and The Dancers' Resource, as well as more than 450 AIDS and social service organizations in all 50 states.
