THE JOSÉ LIMÓN INTERNATIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL October 13-25 at The Joyce Theater

by ExploreDance staff
October 13, 2015
The Joyce Theater
175 Eighth Avenue (at the corner of 19th Street)
New York, NY 10011
212-242-0800
For more than fifty years, works by José Limón have been performed by companies around the world, including the Royal Danish Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Paris Opera Ballet, Bayerisches Staatsballett of Munich and more. Now, approaching the Company's 70th Anniversary, the José Limón Dance Foundation will bring to New York professional companies and important schools from abroad and the U.S. for a Grand Celebration of the works of the legendary choreographer, for two weeks, October 13 - 25, 2015 at the Joyce Theater.

The Limón Dance Company and guests will appear in four different programs, three performances each. The invited schools will perform two different programs, also two performances each. All works have been staged by authorized Limón reconstructors, including Company Artistic Director Carla Maxwell, Sarah Stackhouse, Jennifer Scanlon, Gary Masters, Nina Watt, Kristen Foote, Roxane D'Orleans Juste, and Stephen Pier.

Founded in 1946 by José Limón and Doris Humphrey, the Limón Dance Company has been at the vanguard of American Modern Dance since its inception and maintains its standing as one of the world's greatest Modern Dance companies. The dances selected for the Festival reflect a span of Limón's creative output over the years, as well as the timelessness and humanity so cherished in his body of work.
