Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, one of the nation's premier flamenco and Spanish dance companies, comes to Lakewood for the first time at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 21. Attendees can expect an authentic, visually stunning, and unique cultural experience.

Celebrating their 30th anniversary season, Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana upholds the purity and traditions of flamenco dance while pushing the boundaries of the art form in new directions. With innovative live music, fiery cante jondo, and exotic movements, the artists' power and passion continues to electrify and educate audiences throughout the nation.

Founded in 1983 as Spanish Dance Arts Company, Carlota Santana and Roberto Lorca had a mission to bring flamenco to mainstream audiences. Mr. Lorca passed away in 1987, leaving Ms. Santana determined to carry on his work. As Artistic Director and Founder, Santana has been designated "The Keeper of Flamenco" by Dance Magazine in recognition of her commitment to creating new works and developing young artists and choreographers. Most recently, Ms. Santana was honored by the Government of Spain with La Cruz de la Orden al Merito Civil for "all the years of excellence and dedication to the flamenco art." The medal was awarded March 12, 2013, at the Opening Reception of the exhibit "100 Years of Flamenco in New York" at Lincoln Center's Vincent Astor gallery.

In addition to their performance at Lakewood Cultural Center, Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana will be conducting a dance workshop for people age 55 and better at Clements Community Center on Saturday, February 21 from 10:30-11:45 a.m. The workshop cost is $5 per person and advance registration is required. Interested parties can call 303.987.4820 for more information or to register.

Tickets for the performance start at $18 and are available at 303-987-7845, www.Lakewood.org/LCCPresents, at the Lakewood Cultural Center Box Office, 470 S. Allison Parkway (Wadsworth and West Alameda Avenue). Funding for this program is provided by the Western States Arts Federation and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The 2014-2015 Lakewood Cultural Center Presents season is generously supported by the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD), with appreciation to the citizens of the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District, 5280 Magazine and the Denver Post Community, improving and enriching the lives of those in our community.
