Deutsch is a life-long Brooklynite, who proudly represents the diverse communities within the 48th City Council District, including Brighton Beach, Brightwater Towers, Luna Park, Madison, Manhattan Beach, Midwood, Sheepshead Bay, and Trump Village. Prior to Chaim's decisive victory for City Council in 2013, he served as a constituent liaison for City Councilman Michael C. Nelson and before that, as a community liaison for City Councilman Lloyd Henry. Council Member Chaim Deutsch has been a successful and tireless advocate in helping those in need of assistance. From seniors who are homebound or infirm, to kids who are at risk of drug addiction, alcoholism, or abuse, Chaim has taken a personal interest in an umpteen amount of these sensitive cases, with extremely positive results. Council Member Deutsch has proven time and again that he has the experience and expertise necessary to cut through bureaucratic red tape and hold our city agencies accountable to ensure that their services are provided at the optimum level. Before Hurricane Sandy wreaked havoc on the lives of so many people and destroyed a great amount of our precious waterfront communities, Chaim mobilized community-based volunteers and coordinated with the Flatbush Shomrim, a highly respected volunteer organization he founded in 1990, to help evacuate residents in "Flood Zone A" who were unable to do so alone. When Hurricane Sandy struck, Chaim and his volunteers worked hand-in-hand with Federal, State, and City authorities to help rescue those who were trapped by the storm surge. After Hurricane Sandy's devastation, Chaim, with the assistance of the NYC Mayor's Office and other resources, personally distributed thousands of free meals, heaters, blankets, and other necessities to those in need. Chaim has been recognized on many occasions for his leadership and outstanding services provided to the community. Among his many awards, Chaim has been honored to receive Community Leadership Awards from Police Commissioner William J. Bratton, former Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly, the NYS Senate and Assembly, the NYC Council and former Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz. Chaim was also the recipient of the John V. Lindsay Award for Race and Ethnic Relations from the Citizens Committee for New York City and the Community Service Award from the Rofeh Cholim Cancer Society. After Hurricane Sandy, Chaim was formally recognized and awarded by the Manhattan Beach Community Group for his service during that catastrophic time. Chaim is a graduate of the NYPD Citizens Police Academy as well as the New York City Office of Emergency Management-Community Emergency Response Team Training Program. Chaim has served as the First Vice President and Police Liaison for the Council of Jewish Organizations of Flatbush. He has also served on the Board of Directors of New York Community Hospital and the Chaim Meir/Leader Family Camp Fund. Chaim has been married to his lovely wife Sara for over 25 years. They have five beautiful children and one adorable grandson.
