Bio:
Described as "young and intellectual…with a healthy focus on pleasing the audience" by the Beverly Hill Outlook and "engaging and accessible" by DancePlug, RhetOracle Dance Company was founded, by Nate Hodges, in 2006 and has been striving to bridge the creative gap between commercial and concert jazz dance since its formation six years ago. RhetOracle has collaborated with Jamie Nichols' Celebrate Dance, the Los Angeles Dance Invitational, Vin'Yet Productions, Jeté Cabaret, Culture Shock Los Angeles, Kaba Modern, The Jimmie DeFore Center for the Arts, Fusion Dance Center, Consuming the Arts, and has produced a successful club show The After Hours, an adult-themed dance cabaret for the intellectual, which has been performed at Sachi Bar and The Socal Rock Revolution Music Festival. RhetOracle has been nominated for 13 Lester Horton Dance Awards including five nominations for Best Achievement in Short Form Choreography and won in 2010 for Flowers That Pick Themselves. RhetOracle most recently completed their 5th full length show, a modern interpretation of the classic ballet La Bayadere in partnership with Irvine Valley College. Underlying Philosophy of RhetOracle:
RhetOracle Dance Company was founded in 2006 with a mission to bridge the concert and commercial jazz worlds. With so many dances either created around an idea, but were cryptic or inaccessible or created to be entertaining, but without saying anything or effectively conveying their intention, the goal of our company was two-fold. The "Rhetoric" part of our title referred to our mission to create dances using effective and articulate structure, choreography and theatrical elements to aid in accessibility and understanding without dumbing anything down or affecting the artistic integrity of the artists. The "Oracle" part of our title referred to our goal of picking topics and subject matter that either created a dialogue, educated, or inspired. Basically, we want people to not just enjoy watching dance, but to really "get" what they're watching and feel like they are part of the discussion we create.

On what we're performing:
RhetOracle will be performing a premiere called, The Dancing Man, set to the Brian Boru Irish Pipe Band. The dance, which is a narrative fairytale in the style of contemporary jazz inspired by The Pied Piper and The Red Shoes, is an allegory loosely based on a real-life experience, of Artistic Director Nate Hodges, and focuses on enchantment, disillusionment, and the loss of innocence.
