Upcoming VelocityDC dance festival launch at
the Beacon Hotel Sky Bar on June 17
Washington, D.C. — The press and public are invited to celebrate the launch of a new, two-day dance festival that will take place at Shakespeare Theatre Company's Sidney Harman Hall on October 2nd and 3rd, 2009. The VelocityDC dance festival will be an annual event, creating an exciting dance experience to be savored by new and existing dance audiences.
The festival is modeled broadly on the highly successful Fall for Dance NYC, which since its founding in 2004 has become one of the most visible dance events in the world. The VelocityDC dance festival will provide a wide range of dance programming at a low $15 ticket price and institute international programming using the unique regional resource of Washington's embassies.
The June 17 kick-off enables party guests to mix and mingle with the artists, directors and producers that make up DC's vibrant dance community. VelocityDC dance festival is organized by a new consortium of local dance supportive arts entities. These include presenters Washington Performing Arts Society and Shakespeare Theatre Company; primary artistic partners The Washington Ballet and CityDance Ensemble; and – as a collaborative partner – the region's service organization for dance, Dance/Metro DC.
