The opening night performance of Nederlands Dans Theater II at The Joyce Theater will be on Thursday, April 9 @ 8:00pm. The company will perform through Sunday, April 11. The Joyce Theater is located at 175 Eighth Avenue @ 19th Street.

The internationally acclaimed Nederlands Dans Theater II, founded over 30 years ago with the goal of feeding the main company (Nederlands Dans Theater I) with young talent, is now known for being one of the most revolutionary ensembles in the world of contemporary dance. Returning to NYC after ten years, NDT II will present three works by Lightfoot León that include the New York premiere of Sad Case and the U.S. premieres of Said and Done and Shutters Shut. The program will also feature the New York premiere of Jirí Kylián's Sleepless. Music featured in the program will include Bach, Mozart and Perez Prado & His Orchestra, as well as a poem read by Gertrude Stein titled If I Told Him: A Completed Portrait of Picasso [1923]. Be prepared to see this talented troupe bring astounding technique and boundless energy to The Joyce stage.

Nederlands Dans Theater II was founded in 1978. In its more than 30 years of existence, it has developed into a top quality, internationally recognized company performing in theaters all over the world: Spain, Czech Republic, New Zealand, Turkey, USA, France, Germany, South Korea, Switzerland, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and the Dutch Antilles. NDT II consists of 16 dancers from all over the world between the ages of 17 and 22, all of whom completed classical ballet training. The initial aim of NDT II was to "feed" the main company (Nederlands Dans Theater I) with its young dancers. It served as a "bridge-period" to mature the freshly graduated dancers from the various classical conservatories and schools and prepare them for a professional dance career. Today, over 70% Nederlands Dans Theater I's dancers have started their career in NDT II.
