&Portland, Oregon based contemporary dance/performance art company tEEth led by Co-Artistic Directors, Angelle Hebert and Phillip Kraft debut in New York City at Joyce SoHo with their latest creation, Grub, a new, collaborative, multimedia dance performance.

Project Description
Grub, the latest creation by Portland based collective, tEEth, led by Co-Artistic Directors Angelle Hebert and Phillip Kraft, is a full evening of contemporary dance theater exploring the efforts and complexities of human interaction and the insatiable voids that grip and define our existence. Disjointed realities emerge, identities are lost, and interaction becomes warped and manipulative. Inspired by life's, often, grotesque absurdity, this new work explores the individual and societal facades we construct to shield and protect deeper truths. Moments are isolated, intensified and redefined through the use of live video and blue screen effects, allowing the performers to reveal a dual perspective: the one we perceive from the outside, and the private experience of the individual. Expressed through otherworldly, contorted, idiosyncratic and refined movement, distinct characters emerge and dissolve in a series of duets, trios and solos. An original sound score of arresting melodies, waves of raw dissonance, and live vocalization and singing complete this exploration of complex relationships, navigating an uncompromising path toward human reconnection & truth.
Grub is funded in part by the Regional Arts and Culture Council and is a National Performance Network Creation Fund Project co-commissioned by On the Boards in partnership with Refraction Arts and the National Performance Network. About the Company
Described as "evocative and incomprehensible" by the Seattle Weekly, Portland based contemporary dance/performance art company, tEEth continues to explore work that defies convention and comfort. Their latest project, Grub, premiered at On the Boards (Seattle, WA) February 12-14, 2009 as part of the Northwest Series and will tour nationally to Joyce SoHo (New York City) March 19-21, 2009, the Fuse Box Festival (Austin, TX) April 2009, and pending locations. Their most recent work, Normal and Happy, was presented as part of Portland Institute for Contemporary Art's Time Based Art Festival (Portland, OR) in September of 2007, Reed College's Reed Arts Week Festival (Portland, OR) in March of 2008, and at On the Boards as part of the Northwest New Works Festival in June of 2007.
The collaborative team of Angelle Hebert and Phillip Kraft began in 1999 in Salt Lake City, Utah, moved to Portland in 2002 and evolved into tEEth in 2006. The seed of their work is generated through countless hours of documented collaborative improvisation, resulting in a refined live performance of skillfully crafted concepts, choreography, compositions and vocals. Their investigations explore the body's limitless expression through motion and sound. Morphing human gesture with animalistic qualities, a tense, contorted physicality and quirky, idiosyncratic intricacy emerge. Raw, gritty, extremes imbue the movement and music with a primal sense. The images revealed onstage capture the performance-goer, transporting them viscerally to places subtle and profound, intellectual and fantastical, familiar and scathing. tEEth aims to engage and challenge audiences with an innovative approach to performance through the integration of contemporary dance, theatre, new media, original sound, costumes and sculptural design elements.
In addition to performing in Portland & Seattle, tEEth has toured to Austin, TX as participating artists in the Fuse Box Festival, 2008 and New Orleans, LA. Past work by Hebert and Kraft include the two full productions: Abracadaver in March 2005 and benumbed in April 2006. In Portland, they have created works for Ten Tiny Dances (from this dark place 2008, Splinter 2006, Orange You Listening? 2006 and Membrane 2004), Linda Austin's Richard Foreman Festival Cabaret (Rash 2006 and Meat for Man 2005), 2Gyrlz Enteractive Language Festival (spit, leak, bellowŠ 2005), and Conduit's BamBam Festival (spit, leak, bellowŠ 2005). In addition to corporate and private funding, tEEth, has received grants from the Regional Arts and Culture Council, National Performance Network, and Oregon Arts Commission.
