SYREN Modern Dance Presents Dance on Canvas A performing and visual arts partnership SYREN Modern Dance and students of The Art Students League Share studio space and creative time.
SYREN Modern Dance and The Art Students League of New York warm up the winter with a series of gallery-based rehearsals where painters will portray the company's dynamic motion on canvas. This artistic and audience outreach Partnership program is intended to expand public appreciation for fine and performing arts as well as give both organizations exposure to new audiences. The Partnership will be done in conjunction with SYREN's 2009 New York performance season.
The Partnership with The Art Students League invites fine arts students into two SYREN rehearsals a month that will be held in the Phyllis Harriman Mason Gallery at The Art Students League. The visual artists will observe the dancers in motion and convey that inspiration in their own mediums. The finished pieces will be shared with audiences at SYREN's Sixth Annual New York Season and at an exhibition of the work at the Office of the Manhattan Borough President.

Founded in 1875, the Art Students League has been instrumental in shaping America's legacy in the fine arts. Many renowned artists-Georgia O'Keeffe, Norman Rockwell, Jackson Pollock, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, James Rosenquist, Louise Nevelson, Helen Frankenthaler and Cy Twombly among them-have honed their skills at the League. Established by artists for artists, the League is an atelier school in which the language of art is taught and developed through immersion in the practices of drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and assemblage. The League is committed to the training of professional artists, but offers the finest quality art education for students at all levels. It seeks to ensure that all who wish to attend can do so at an affordable price.
