- comments and photographs by Robert AbramsThe 92nd Street Y (New York City, New York) puts on a street festival every year. This year they had free dance lessons in Line Dancing, Swing, Argentine Tango, Ballroom (Foxtrot), Salsa, and Afro-Caribbean Dance, among others. They also had dance performances, including a performance by cast members from Swing!, the Broadway musical. If you didn't want to dance, there was plenty else to do, including pony rides. There were consistently ten people or more who took each dance lesson. The audience was very appreciative. Quite a way to start a dance career. I danced Swing with a 92nd Street Y volunteer, Argentine Tango with an Argentine Tango aficionado, and Foxtrot with a person who studies Flamenco and researches dance history. I took some pictures of the Carribean dance class (and the ponies). The 92nd Street Y is located at 92nd Street and Lexington Avenue. On most, but not all, Saturday nights they offer dance parties in Argentine Tango, Swing, or Ballroom. Call 212-674-0505 for more information.

With dance like this, who needs ponies?
Everybody's working it.
On second thought, everyone ought to have a pony.
