Dance New York's Showcase of the Stars 4

- comments by Robert Abrams

On September 15, 2000, Dance New York held its Showcase of the Stars #4. Dance New York, a ballroom studio, holds a student showcase roughly every six weeks. This special show gives its students the chance to show off their stuff. I have always found these shows to be inspiring. They give students something to work towards, while building community among teachers and students.

There were 9 performances. Rob Clock and Carlotta Craig (both students) danced an American Tango. Their teacher is Kana Kubota. Miyuki Daly danced a Cha-cha with her teacher, Christian Perry. Sally Tchassov danced a Swing with her teacher, Alex Tchassov. Philippa Zemelman danced a Tango with her teacher, Clive Philips.

Later in the evening, Alan McElroy and Stephanie Bentley (both students) danced an International Waltz and a Quickstep. Their teacher is Bill Davies. 100%/Quiet Storm (I am not sure if this is a person or a group) danced a pro-am Hip Hop with Excel, a teacher. Marcy Gross danced a Jitterbug with a her teacher Christian Perry. Alan McElroy danced an American Waltz with her teacher, Karen McDonald. Finally, Clive Philips and Karen McDonald gave a demonstrations of infinite grace and skill.

Since I did not attend this event, I do not have pictures at this time. If anyone who was there has pictures, please contact me at info@exploredance.com.

Dance New York is located at 237 West 54th Street (3rd Floor) in New York, NY 10019 (Between Broadway & 8th Avenue). Their phone number is 212-246-5797.
