Birthday Dances at Jack Rose

Jack Rose is one of the best places to go for West Coast Swing in New York City (771 8th Avenue and 47th Street in NYC, 212-247-7518). Most Wednesday nights starting at 9 pm on the second floor you can find some of the best West Coast Swing dancers in the greater New York Metro area. Beginners are always welcome too. The food is good and there is always some lively conversation going on at the bar. John Festa, the DJ and organizer, plays an inviting mix of music.

Happy Birthday to Ligaya Fish, consumate Westie-Hopper!

Ligaya Fish has been dancing West Coast Swing and other partner dances since 1999. She began competing in West Coast Swing in 2000, and with a diverse background in tap, jazz and ballet, has advanced quickly through the divisions. She has earned many competitive placements including first place wins in categories such as Grand National Dance Championships, Open Jack and Jill Swing (2001), Virginia State Open Dance Championships, Open Classic West Coast Swing (2002), and New Years Eve Dance Extravaganza, Advanced Just Dance Swing (2002). This year she also became a US Open finalist, as well as a choreographer and teacher for the Hartford Conservatory School of Performing Arts. She travels frequently in the northeast and nationally to compete, judge, teach and perform. In the last year, she has opened her own studio in Hartford, CT where she teaches weekly.
