New York Theatre Ballet announces the company's 2017-18 season, which will include children's shows and repertory performances throughout the year.

Hudson Valley Dance Festival: Dancers Responding to AIDS
October 7, 2017

Renowned dance companies and emerging artists return to the heart of the Hudson Valley when Hudson Valley Dance Festival presents its fifth annual edition with performances at 2pm and 5pm. The festival will again transform the 120-year-old wooden warehouse at Historic Catskill Point into a modern-day dance venue. NYTB is honored to join Dancers Responding to AIDS at this year's Festival, performing Merce Cunningham's Cross Currents.
 
Children's Dance on a Shoestring
October 27 & 28, 2017

This special edition of Dance on a Shoestring is produced, choreographed, and performed entirely by children of Ballet School NY, the official training academy of New York Theatre Ballet. Join NYTB for their annual Halloween performance and party! Saturday's performance is immediately followed by a party, where children are encouraged to wear their Halloween costume. Games, prizes, and lots of treats.
 
NYTB at Danspace Project: Legends & Visionaries
November 2-4, 2017

The company returns to Danspace Project for their fourth season. The program will feature a new ballet by American Ballet Theatre's Gemma Bond, the fourth ballet she has created for NYTB, and David Gordon's BEETHOVEN/1999, originally choreographed for his company, Pick Up Performance Co(s) in the late 1990's with four dancers. The evening will also include Richard Alston's A Rugged Flourish, and José Limón's La Malinche,staged by former Limón dancer Sarah Stackhouse.
 
Kaatsbaan Gala 2017

New York Theatre Ballet is thrilled to perform at Kaatsbaan International Dance Centers GALA 2017! The evening includes a champagne reception, dinner, wine, live music, and more. NYTB will perform Jerome Robbins' Antique Epigraphs, with music played live by Joan Tower and Michael Scales.
 
Dance on a Shoestring
November 17 & 18, 2017

Dance on a Shoestring is an intimate evening of dance held in the company's home at St. Mark's Church-In-the Bowery. The community series showcases ballets from New York Theatre Ballet's current season, works in progress by contemporary and emerging choreographers, and children of Ballet School NY.

From clockwork imps to a luminous owl that flies above the audience, mice dressed in polka dots and dancers dancing with huge chopsticks, this timeless, re-imagined classic bursts with energy and excitement. This holiday ballet, danced to Tchaikovsky's beloved score, is set in Art Nouveau style circa 1907 with innovative choreography by long-time NYTB choreographer, Keith Michael; set design by Gillian Bradshaw-Smith; and costumes by Resident Costume Designer of the Metropolitan Opera, Sylvia Taalsohn Nolan.

The company will present Double Andante by Pam Tanowitz, a 13-minute ballet for ten dancers set to the Andante movement of Beethoven's "Sonata in D Major #15"and played live on piano two times at different tempos. NYTB will present Tickling Titans by Steven Melendez. Martha Clarke's The Garden of Villandry (1979), set to Franz Schubert's "Trio No. 1 in B flat, Op.99," paints the story of love entangled: a ménage à trois that leaves the spectators wondering which was the husband and which the lover. Antony Tudor's 1937 masterpiece Dark Elegies is an eloquent, somber ballet danced to Gustav Mahler's song cycle "Kindertotenlieder." Deborah Jowitt wrote in Dance Beat,"The NYTB dancers perform Dark Elegies scrupulously and sensitively. A great achievement."

The wit, wisdom, and whimsy of a lively baker's dozen of Mother Goose characters. They literally leap from the page to the stage to stir the imagination of the young and the young-of-heart - just as they have for centuries! Choreography by Keith Michael.
 
Harkness Dance Festival 2018: A Centennial Celebration of Jerome Robbins
March 16 & 17, 2018

NYTB returns to 92Y and the Harkness Dance Festival on March 16 & 17 with A Centennial Celebration of Jerome Robbins, an American Genius, featuring his rarely seen works, Rondo (1980), Septet (1982) and Concertino (1982).

The Alice-in-Wonderland Follies at Florence Gould Hall
April 28 & 29, 2018

Follow Alice's adventures through Wonderland as she meets some of the most beloved characters in children's literature. Presented in a vaudeville setting, this eclectic ballet draws on many different dance forms - from Irish Step Dancing to African Juba to classical ballet - all of which combine to make a highly entertaining show. "…there is no more delightful or charming production to be found in New York City." -Broadway World. Choreography by Keith Michael.
