Edward Simon, Teka Rae and Michelle Officer once again organized the New York Dance Festival, a local ballroom competition. This is a one day event. This year it was held in the Roosevelt Hotel, which has seen its fair share of dance events, such as a recent Salsa congress. (See our coverage of the 2002 New York Dance Festival.)

The Roosevelt hotel is an elegant but intimate venue for a dance event. Edward, Teka and Michelle (who I used to compete with) attracted quite a few excellent dancers who moved with energy and gave the audience a good show. John DePalma, the MC, was as mellifluous as ever. He should read poetry between heats; his voice is that good.

The New York Dance Festival is growing nicely. If you are into competitive ballroom dance, put it on your calendar for next year.

Here are a few photos shot from up in the first ring above the ballroom. Click on each picture to see a larger version.
