Jane Comfort and Company Returns to Jacob's Pillow in Provocative, Witty Dance Theatre Works June 29 — July 3
"Words, music and movement seethe together, united, their rhythms whirl the morsels of meaning into life stories" -The Village Voice

For more than 25 years, Jane Comfort has challenged the boundaries of dance and theatre. In her newest work, Beauty, she examines the metamorphosis of the American idea of beauty in hilarious and serious ways. Comfort frames a compelling performance dialogue about a culture of plastic surgery, hair extensions, Photoshop and beyond, all through the lens of the iconic Barbie doll. (Mature Content)

The company will also perform Comfort's Underground River, originally commissioned by Jacob's Pillow and honored with a Bessie Award as a "risk-taking and profound theatrical tour de force." Underground River is a moving work that exists in the fantasy world of a young girl, with melodies by singer/songwriter Toshi Reagon and puppetry and design by Basil Twist.
