PRESS RELEASE

Executive Producer Jamie Nichols
Presents CELEBRATE DANCE 2011
Saturday, March 12, 2011 8:00PM
Alex Theatre
216 North Brand Blvd.
Glendale, CA 91203

WHAT: Executive Producer Jamie Nichols presents CELEBRATE DANCE 2011 Saturday, March 12, 2011 8:00pm at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, California with a line-up of eight extraordinary dance companies sizzling with poetic lyricism, dazzling moves, contagious vitality and jaw-dropping physicality. This delicious mixture of compelling new works, premieres and Los Angeles debuts celebrates contemporary, modern, ballet and jazz dance. One stage! One night only!

CELEBRATE DANCE 2011 brings two companies from out of town this season. From Brooklyn, New York, Creative Outlet Dance Theatre of Brooklyn under the direction of Jamel Gaines. Gaines' work explores contemporary movement and laces it with African influences to convey the story of Americans shifting their perceptions, roles and movement in society. Recently, his choreography was featured on the popular TV show "So You Think You Can Dance". The company will offer "Prize" as a Los Angeles premiere.

Also on the program is Malashock Dance from San Diego, California under the direction of John Malashock. After a distinguished performing career with Twyla Tharp Dance in New York, John Malashock founded Malashock Dance in 1988. Malashock was most recently named "Faces To Watch in 2011" by the Los Angeles Times. Malashock Dance will be showing two works on the program: "Everybody Knows" choreographed Malashock and "Tethered", choreographed by Michael Mizerany. This will be a homecoming of sorts for Mr. Mizerany. Formerly a dancer with the Lewitzky Dance Company, his critically acclaimed work has not been seen in Los Angeles for several years.

Six other exceptional companies from the greater Los Angeles area will offer premieres as well: BARE Dance Company, Deborah Rosen and Dancers, Monat Dance, Regina Klenjoski Dance Company, Terri Best Dance, and Visions Dance Theatre.

This will be the sixth installment of the annual event and promises to be another exceptional night of dance for Los Angeles. For three consecutive years 2007, 2008 and 2009 CELEBRATE DANCE has been awarded the Lester Horton Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement for Festival. Numerous participants have received Lester Horton Dance Awards from participating in the annual festival presented by impresaria, Jamie Nichols.

Continuing her commitment to community outreach, Ms. Nichols has donated free tickets to underserved students every year. This year, again with the generosity of The Flourish Foundation, Nichols will bring 100 middle school students to the Alex Theatre following master classes taught by two of the participating choreographers, Mike Esperanza (BARE Dance Company) and Terri Best (Terri Best Dance). For three years the event has been a sell-out show with enthusiastic audiences of all ages. Show time runs approximately 2 hours and is suitable for all ages.
