TAKE Dance Company, a contemporary dance ensemble known for its gentle blend of eastern and western sensibilities led by artistic director and choreographer Takehiro Ueyama, presents a program filled with exuberant play, human dancescapes and structural patterns that overflow the stage. The four-performance engagement will feature two premieres: the world premiere of Footsteps in the Snow, set to music by Arvo Part, and the New York City premiere of Shabon, set to the music of Steve Reich, as well as Love Stories (2008), a three movement pas de deux, and the beloved Linked (2008) "…a bright explosive tour de force" (The Daily Gazette) inspired by the music of Pat Metheny.

The fifth annual New York season of TAKE Dance Company will take place from July 30 - August 2, 2009 at Dance Theater Workshop, 219 W. 19th Street, NYC. Founded in 2004, TAKE Dance Company is a New York City based contemporary dance company that explores the integration of expressive and physical movement. Japanese born and former dancer with the Paul Taylor Dance Company, artistic director Takehiro Ueyama blends eastern and western sensibilities to communicate the universal human condition. Collaborations with contemporary artists in other creative genres are one of the motivating factors in Ueyama's creative process. Through its diverse movement, musical choices, subject matter and collaborations, TAKE Dance Company brings a unique depth and fulfilling experience to audiences. TAKE Dance has performed nationwide at the New Noises Festival at Perry-Mansfield, Kaatsbaan International Dance Center, Joyce SoHo, Thalia Theater at Symphony Space, the Ailey Citigroup Theater, Jacob's Pillow, PS/21 Chatham, the Central Park SummerStage, among others. Choreographer-dancer Takehiro Ueyama founded the TAKE Dance Company in 2004, in New York City. With traces of his Japanese heritage, his work is inspired by the beauty of nature and the nature of humanity and equally uses powerful athleticism and delicate gesture to ensure a place on stage for the heart. He has created a vast repertoire of work featuring sensitive and exciting choreography that presents a feast for the eyes, the mind and the soul. Mr. Ueyama's choreography has been performed for audiences worldwide, including Central Park SummerStage, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, the New Noises Festival at Perry Mansfield in Colorado, Kaatsbaan International Dance Center, Joyce SoHo, The Leonard Nimoy Thalia at Peter Norton Symphony Space, the Ailey Citigroup Theater, PS/21 Chatham, New York, and was selected as the third prize-winner at the International Modern Dance Choreographic Competition in Spain. He has restaged works for The Alvin Ailey School, Tallahassee Ballet, PHILADANCO for the Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography, New School University, The Juilliard School, Purchase College, Princeton University, Marymount Manhattan College, Randolph College, Perry Mansfield and International Summer Dance in Burgos, Spain. Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, Mr. Ueyama moved to the United States to study at The Juilliard School in New York. As a member of the Paul Taylor Dance Company from 1995 to 2003, he toured extensively throughout the United States, Europe, South America and Asia. His television and film credits include appearances on PBS for Dance in America's Acts of Ardor, and Dancemaker, a film by Matthew Diamond. He has also worked with the Martha Graham Ensemble and continues to perform with Kazuko Hirabayashi Dance Theatre since 2003. Additionally, Mr. Ueyama teaches contemporary dance technique in several of the major dance schools, universities and festivals throughout the United States, Japan, and Europe.
