"Tanguera" The Tango Musical, as described by international critics is a story of love and passion. It is a provocative, sensual and visually entrancing production. "Tanguera" tells a story of unrequited love in turn-of-the-20th-century Buenos Aires through a unique combination of song, music, and dance In this erotic and sensual musical, a young French girl, deceived by a prostitution ring arrives in Argentina at the Port of Buenos Aires, and meets the dockworker Lorenzo, an idealist and dreamer. Life transforms them. She becomes a cabaret star and he must decide to face destiny and conquer his love.

"Tanguera" opened on January 8, 2002 at the El Nacional de Buenos Aires Theatre, where the most successful musicals in Argentina have been presented. With more than thirty actors on stage, "Tanguera" reached an audience of over 220,000 people and became the musical most widely acclaimed by critics and industry. It received five awards from the Asociación de Cronistas del Espectaculo de la Argentina (Association of Argentine Entertainment Industry Reporters) for Best Musical, Best Production, Best Choreography, Best Lighting and Best Female Performance. Clarin, the number two Argentine newspaper, also gave "Tanguera" award for the Best Musical of 2002, which made it the new Tango musical that would soon take the world by storm.

"Tanguera" was performed at Santiago, Chile's opera house successfully attracting an audience of 15,000 people in only 10 performances and spreading "tango fever" to the most demanding critics. After the performances in Chile, "Tanguera" was invited to the opening of the New Alcala Theatre in Madrid, where it ran for three months with extraordinary box-office success. The Spaniards were so fascinated with this passionate Argentine musical production that they not only were eager to see the musical, but also to learn how to dance it, which is why the choreographer of the musical, after the first month in Madrid, opened a studio where people could learn the world's most sensual dance.

From 2003 "Tanguera" has been performing to captivating audiences and sold out performances in China, Mexico City, tours in Argentina and Mexico, Tokyo as well as return engagements in Buenos Aires and Santiago to name a few. Just this year it has played to SRO audiences in Berlin at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and with extra added performances in Paris for the engagement at the Théatre du Châtalet.

Performances are: Wednesdays, at 7:30pm; Thursday – Saturdays at 8pm; Sunday (10/11) at 7pm with matinees Saturday (10/17) and Sunday (10/18) at 2:00pm. There is no performance Thursday 10/8. Tickets are $95 (Orchestra, Grand Tier center), $75 (Mid Mezzanine), $45 (Rear Mezzanine) and there are also a few premium orchestra seats at $120. Tickets are now on sale for the international musical sensation and they are available through City Tix (212) 581-1212 / 1-877-581-1212 (outside metropolitan area NY, NJ, CT) or order online at www.citycenter.org.
